Refilling, plastic-free packaging, compostable tea bags and the small changes that add up to a lower-impact cup.
Enjoying tea responsibly means thinking about the whole journey – how a tea is grown, how it reaches us, how it's packaged, and what happens to it once the cup is empty. It's easy to focus only on what's in the cup, but the choices made at every other stage are just as important. This section is where we're open about the decisions we make at PekoeTea, the progress we've made, and the parts we're still working on.
You'll find the thinking behind our refill scheme, which helps cut down on single-use packaging for teas you buy again and again; a close look at our packaging and the trade-offs involved in getting it right; and an honest account of where things actually stand with compostable tea bags – a subject with more nuance than the label on the box usually admits.
We don't claim to have everything figured out. Sustainability in a global supply chain is genuinely complicated, and some choices involve balancing competing goods rather than finding one perfect answer. What we can promise is to be honest about those trade-offs and to keep improving steadily rather than greenwashing. These articles explain what we're doing and why – and, just as importantly, the small changes you can make at home to lower the impact of your own tea drinking, from how you buy it to how you brew and dispose of it.
