How we work directly with tea estates, spice producers and Scottish farmers to source our teas and the ingredients for our blends.
We're very proud to trade directly with several tea estates and ingredient suppliers in Scotland and around the world. We buy directly from single estates wherever we can, because the difference between an estate tea and an anonymous blend is enormous – in flavour, in traceability, and in what a cup can tell you about the place it came from. Knowing the altitude a tea grew at, the cultivar it was made from, and how it was withered and fired helps you taste it more clearly. It also means the people who grew it are recognised and paid fairly for their skill.
Every tea and ingredient has a story – a region, a garden, a season, and the hands that picked and processed it. This is where we tell those stories in depth. You'll find travel notes from our visits to tea factories in Yunnan, gardens like Rohini in Darjeeling, and profiles of long-standing producers such as the Zhou family, with whom we've worked for years. Some pieces follow a single flush from a single field; others trace a tea all the way from the mountainside to your cup. We also look closer to home, with stories from some of our Scottish suppliers.
