Brand New Teas for 2019

New teas from the Zhou Family and the Rohini Estate

This week we've been very excited about the launch of four new teas, now available online ahead of being available in our Leven Street store on Monday.

Direct from the Zhou family we've got three handmade oolongs: Wuyi Da Hong Pao, Wuyi Shui Xian, and Ya Shi Xiang Dan Cong.

Alongside these we've got a brand new harvest of First Flush Jethi Kupi from the Rohini Estate in Darjeeling.

We only have limited stock of each tea.

Rohini Jethi Kupi First Flush

Rohini Tea Estate is located around 1000-3000ft above sea level in the Kurseong Valley. It is one of the oldest tea estates in Darjeeling with the oldest bushes being planted by the British in the 1850s. Jethi Kupi comes from the Manipuri dialect and it means 'jasmine flower' which suits its floral and delicate aroma. This first flush comes from the February 2019 harvest. You can expect intense tropical, juicy flavours from the infusion, and a bright golden orange liquor

We are very lucky to be able to buy these teas direct from the gardens in small quantities ensuring that we bring you the freshest teas at the best prices.

Zhou Family Tea Masters

We're so pleased to be able to add three new oolongs to our Zhou Family Collection. What's more you can expect three more Zhou teas to come in the very near future!

The Zhou family have been growing and harvesting award-winning tea in the Wuyi and Phoenix Mountains for generations. The teas are grown and processed traditionally on small plots, giving each a unique flavour and aroma.

Only 25 caddys of each

We're only stocking these oolongs in caddys, and we've only got 25 of each type. Teas like this are of such high quality and are made with such care that can't be produced in massive quantities. Each harvest may have subtle differences in flavour and aroma.

Similarities exist between these oolongs, all of them having sweet and fruity notes – these flavours range from an intense blackberry in the Da Hong Pao, to a boiled-sweet sensation in the Shui Xian.

'Duck Shit'

Our Ya Shi Xiang Dan Cong comes from the Phoenix mountains as opposed to the Wuyi mountains (where the Da Hong Pao and Shui Xian are grown). This harvest is particularly creamy and floral in taste, with stone-fruit accents and a roasted finish. Ya Shi Xiang is named for its distinct aroma which amusingly translates as 'duck-shit'.

 Try in store

We'll be holding a priority tea tasting for these teas in store this coming Thursday the 23rd of May. The tasting will take place between 6-7pm and will be an exciting chance to try these teas made Gongfu style, ask any questions you might have, and grab yourself a caddy before they all run out!
