Japanese Tea

Tea was introduced to Japan, along with zen buddhism, by a monk returning from a visit to China in the 9th century. The trend in China at the time was to whisk powdered green tea and drink it from glazed bowls. These are the roots of the Japanese tea ceremony, which has become increasingly refined over the centuries.
